AL ANDALUZ - MOORISH SPAIN
A thought provoking documentary examining changes during the Dark Ages
Many people believe that religion lies at the root of most wars.
But is that true?
It seems that land-grabbing has always been the real reason for war.
Look at Spanish history for a classic example of victors writing a story to disguise the more complex and beautiful truth.
Al-Andalus was the Muslim-ruled area of the Iberian Peninsula, spanning from 711 to 1492. At its greatest extent, it occupied most of the peninsula, including Septimania under Umayyad rule. The name “Al-Andalus” describes the different Muslim states that controlled these territories at various times.
Early Conquest and Expansion
In 711, an army of Arabs and Berbers from North Africa, united by their faith in Islam, crossed the Strait of Gibraltar and arrived on the Iberian Peninsula. Within a decade, the Muslims brought most of the peninsula under their domination, calling the Iberian lands they controlled “al-Andalus”.
Cultural and Architectural Legacy
Al-Andalus left a rich cultural and architectural heritage, evident today in the language, customs, architecture, and even the genetic makeup of modern-day Spain. The Muslims introduced their own art, literature, and science, blending them with the existing Roman and Visigothic influences. This unique cultural fusion is reflected in the stunning architecture of the Alhambra, the Mezquita (Mosque-Cathedral) of Córdoba, and other Islamic monuments throughout the region.
Decline and Expulsion
Well might Abu Abdallah Mohammed XII have sighed as he rode away into exile in 1492, marking the end of almost 800 years of Islamic rule in the Iberian Peninsula. The Christian monarchs Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragon had brought an end to Muslim domination, leaving behind a legacy of cultural and architectural treasures.

".....might Abu Abdallah Mohammed XII have sighed as he rode away into exile in 1492..." Comprehending this date 1492, bring clarity to the whole "Columbus" narrative. The Moors had "holdings" in "the new world," and this was Columbus' mission. He left Spain with Moorish maps, and Moorish navigators to survey "the new holdings." The whole "discovery" story is a fraud. He knew what was there. He had the paperwork detailing such before he left Spain.
After the Moors left it became illegal to take a bath or wear perfume. This is when the Inquisition started and everyone there was forced to eat pork or face punishment. Nothing "Moorish" was accepted. To this day visitors travel there to see what the Moors left. The Library at Toledo became a "Spanish" treasure, although it was compiled by the Moors. We can all see what Columbus left for this realm.
